Reverse camera upgrade checklist: screen, signal, power and installation
The camera itself is only one part of a reliable reversing-camera upgrade.
A reversing-camera system needs a compatible display, a suitable video signal, correct power and a secure installation route from the rear of the vehicle to the screen.
Check the display input
Confirm the head unit or monitor has the correct camera input and that the camera signal format is supported.
Plan camera placement
The camera should provide a useful view without blocking the number plate, handle or tailgate operation. Vehicle shape can affect the best mounting position.
Protect the wiring
Cables should be routed away from sharp edges, moving parts, heat and water entry points. Connections at the rear of the vehicle need appropriate protection.
Test before final assembly
Confirm the image, trigger operation and viewing angle before refitting all trim panels.
